I hate to say it, but this is not one of my favorite Shalvis series (Animal Magnetism for the win there). The pace is steady, the characters are interesting, but despite starting at the beginning of this series, I feel like I got dropped in the middle! The book and the series are enjoyable thus far, but unlike Shalvis' other series, you do NOT want to try this as a stand alone - the characters are too interdependent.

I know I am going to get a bunch of negative votes by Shalvis fans, but truly, this story felt like Jill Shalvis (whose earlier work I liked) just phoned it in. It was a cookie cutter formulaic story and the characters were one dimensional and interchangeable. The situation could have been interesting but after setting the scene (hard working member of family that owns the lodge and cancer survivor wanting to live life to the fullest) there was practically no character development and it was hard to either identify or empathize with the H/h for long. The H/h were kissing at their second meeting because they bumped into each other in a very awkward and contrived scene and that's when I began to realize that this story was going to be hard to finish. It was predictable (not usually something bad in itself, in my view) but mainly it was uninteresting. The dialogue was pretty pedestrian and even the banter between H and his siblings seemed too cute and artificial and was less charming and amusing than it was intended to be. Definitely Jill's heart was not in this one. Sorry to be so down on one of my previous auto-buy authors' work, but this one really fell short for me. I won't be reading the rest in the series. Finally, this is a matter of personal preference and not in and of itself a cause for only 2 stars: am I the only one who finds the "tingling" in the "lady bits" to be a really distasteful and just too cute description/terminology? Yuck. Would have much more impact if either blunter terms were used or it were left to the reader's imagination.

3.5It's Hudson Kincaid's chance to fall in love and get a shot at fighting for a HEA with Bailey Moore, and luckily, their journey was an entertaining and adorable one. Both Hudson and Bailey are scarred for different reasons, both are stubborn as hell, and both are perfect for each other in spite of how sometimes they see the world from two distinct POVs. I got various grins and giggles from their interactions.I also enjoyed seeing Hudson with his family. Every Kincaid is unique in their own way and that's why they're an interesting family. The trouble I had with this book though, as I had with the first one, I feel there's something missing for me to completely fall in love with this series. Proof of this is that aside from the characters names, I couldn't remember anything of book 1. It even made the first chapters extremely confusing because I didn't know who these people were or what was going on.It's never happened to me with a Jill Shalvis series. Until now. And it frustrated me because I felt like I never read the book in the first place.Fortunately, Jill Shalvis does make a recount of the family history when Hudson opens up to Bailey, so you can start the series with book 2 BUT I'm a sucker for remembering previous characters and moments and getting excited when they show up again... which I didn't get in here.Nevertheless, I will read the upcoming books. I'm curious about the "lost" brother and I did get to like the Kincaids some more this second time around.

“Oh boy. “Aren’t you afraid that might express personal interest?”His smile was a little naughty. “I’ve had my tongue down your throat. I’m pretty sure I’ve already expressed personal interest.”When in doubt of what to read next...Mrs. Shalvis is ALWAYS a great choice. If one more person asks her if she is okay ... Bailey is recovering/recovered from a very bad illness that lasted 10+ years. She is ready to start living. Item #1 on "the list" - ski the Rocky Mountains. Great idea except, she doesn't really ski well and after reading her map upside down, getting on/off the lift on the hardest ski run at Cedar Ridge, breaking her ski...she is content to just sit at the top of the world and enjoy the view.Hudson, head of ski patrol, gets the call for a skier needing help at the top of devil's face. What he does not expect to find is a brightly dressed waif of a woman who can not read a map. After he gets her ski fixed and gets her headed in the right direction (down the ski lift) he is off to the next rescue, meeting, responsibility. Until his mom's nurse calls to inform him that his mother just used his credit card to buy a woman.Suddenly, Hudson and Bailey are thrown together and sparks fly!

I love Jill's writing. This book is no exception. This is book 2 in the series. I fell for Hudson or Hud as his family and friends called him! My heart ached for him feeling like he had to take on everything that he was somehow responsible for everything...trying to be the "man". Bailey did the unexpected she beat cancer. A type of cancer that is usually fatal. Hudson had walls up protecting himself and the last thing he wanted was someone else to "worry" about! Bailey made herself a list of things she wanted to do and see and being tied down was not one of them. Yes, she wanted the HEA but she wanted to see the world and do things on her "list" first. They fight their attraction to a point because they both feel that the other is not looking for HEA and they are both stubborn and let the other walk away. This book takes you through everything the other is feeling along with a touch of family meddling! I don't think you will be disappointed n this book at all but start with book 1 so you understand ALL the characters!!!
